Welcome to the OC Pizza Parlor! - Teacher Christine

We had such a fantastic week opening the Small Friends Pizza Parlor! The kids had a wonderful time this week making pizzas, creating their very own musical compositions, and enjoying fruit parfaits for snack.

The first order of business each day was jumping right in to fill pizza orders for friends and teachers. Yum!

For our projects on Monday and Wednesday, the kids had the chance to create a musical composition of their very own! We brought out a big keyboard and each child took a turn creating a song. Then, using color coding or writing the notes, they wrote their song and named it. They really concentrated on their songs and took time with their compositions. On Friday, we had the keyboard out for the kids to continue making music!

Our second activity on Monday was a fun game called Pizza Factory. Each child pulled a card with a different number of toppings. They picked out the correct number and made their pizzas! This was a great game for counting and adding.

On Wednesday the kids created super fun pizza art with felt cheese, pepperoni, and olives. These look so cute and are up in the classroom to enjoy.

In lieu of an art project on Friday, we busted out the cutting boards and knives and made delicious fruit parfaits. The kids loved cutting up strawberries, bananas, and grapes. It was fun to see each child work on their knife skills. Then we scooped in vanilla yogurt, and sprinkled on crushed graham cracker. Yum!

Our second activity on Friday was a fun alphabet car game. The kids matched the letters taped to each matchbox car to the "parking spot" and drove it to the correct spot. What a great way to practice letter recognition.

At our texture table, we placed all sorts of play fruits and veggies to cut up and make into delicious creations.

At the water tub, the kids had a great time scrubbing fruits and vegetables as well as filling squirt bottles and spraying the water tub (and sometimes each other) down!

The OC is full of budding artists and their creativity knows no bounds. They made puppets, beautiful beaded necklaces, and used lots of glue to create special gifts for their loved ones.

Our building table was full of various shapes to bolt together to form structures or robots. This was a fun way to build creatively and to practice fine motor skills.

The book nook is always a cozy spot to read with friends!

The kids enjoyed a variety of new and old games to play with.

We checked on our 23 chicken eggs and welcomed butterfly larvae to our classroom, too!

Here is a peek at your kids playing around the room. Spring has blossomed and with it, the children have become very busy! They are full of energy and ideas and hit the ground running every day at school.

The kids love to start circle time with dancing and instruments!

Friends had a blast with Panda this week!!

We read a book about the little red hen making pizza, another about a silly character who loves spaghetti just a little too much, and a book about the life cycle of a chicken egg. We also talked about the stages of our chicken eggs! The kids are getting really excited for the chicks to hatch.

We played Pizza Factory at circle time and the kids loved how Teacher Meghan made the pizza into a silly face.

We sang a song called "On Top of Spaghetti" and another song called "P-I-Z-Z-A" to the tune of "B-I-N-G-O".

As always, recess is a time to run, ride bikes, and test out new skills on the monkey bars!

Next week, we close the pizza parlor and head to the beach. It's time for our ocean theme!

See you all on Monday!
Christine and Meghan
