Ringing in the New Year in the YC- Teacher Meghan

Welcome back Younger Class!! It was wonderful to see everyone's smiling and happy faces back at school.  Penguins, snowmen and snowflakes had overtaken the classroom during the break and presented a lot of opportunity for play.

On our first day back to school the kids made a collaborative collage with snowflake stamps dipped in paint, shimmery glittery and magical shimmery snow.

The kids also got a chance to make marshmallow structures using toothpicks and different sized marshmallows.

On Tuesday we pulled out the shaving cream and the kids got to bury bears, drive cars scoop and squish to their hearts' content. What good messy fun!

Our second parent led activity on Tuesday was playing "shape hockey". The kids worked on identifying different shapes and then got a chance to wack them into the net with their hockey sticks.

We read a couple of books about footprints in the snow and different animal feet this week. On Thursday we played a game where we put animal footprints in the play dough and the kids had to guess which animal left the footprints. They had a blast!

On Thursday the kids made a "melted" snowman collage. They used a combination of shaving cream and glue to make their snow puddle and then they added small twigs for arms, buttons for eyes, a hat, scarf and carrot nose. They finished up their collage with a yellow sun.

This week we had trucks in the texture table!

In the water tub we had penguins and icebergs.

At our light table we had an iceberg with Epsom salts, "ice cubes" and Arctic creatures.

On our flannel board we had all the makings for a snowman.

At creation station we had giant snowballs, snowmen, mittens and snowflakes.

Snowflake cookie cutters and shimmery blue stones sparked creativity at the play dough table.

We had a ski hill on our building table.

Mabel was so happy to have all the kids back and enjoyed all of the snuggles and snacks!

Friends engaged in play all over the classroom.

At circle time we sang songs about penguins and a melting snowman. We read a couple of books about feet and footprints, and a penguin name Tacky. We did snow yoga and celebrated two birthdays!!

We had such a fun week back with your amazing kids. The winter fun continues next week with more penguin and polar bear fun!!
See you Tuesday,
Meghan and Christine
