More Wintry Fun in the YC - Teacher Lisa

The winter fun continued this week as we hung gloves on the clothesline, made treats for the birds, pressed snowflakes into slime and broke out our awesome ball run!

On Tuesday the children all had a chance to carry plastic balls to the top of the loft, drop them into gutters and then watch as they rolled and rolled and rolled down to a friend waiting at the bottom of the stairs. Our adult volunteer helped them take turns and learn how to work together and they did a great job. This activity is always a hit and we will leave this up in the classroom over the next couple of months.

Our second parent-led activity on Tuesday was choosing a pine cone to coat with Crisco and birdseed, making a bird feeder to hang on a fence or tree branch at home.

On Thursday we scrunched tin foil into icicle shapes, covered them with glue and then dipped them into a bowl filled with iridescent confetti. The sparkly results are hanging in our windows.

Our second parent-led activity Thursday was using magnifying glasses to examine tiny pictures of snowflakes so that they could be paired with a larger picture of the exact same flake.

Around the room there were gloves and mittens to hang on a clothesline...

Bears, film canisters and pitchers to use at the water table...

Slime, snowflakes and polar bears out on the light table...

Play dough for baking or for playing the footprint game from last week...

Puzzles to put together...

Lots of fun supplies at the creation station...

The giant blocks to build with...

Here are some of the other ways children used their free play time this week:

During our time together on the carpet we sang, "Skiddamarink," "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More," and learned a funny scarf song about a walrus doing the laundry.

We read The Hat, A Snowy Day, The Biggest Snowman Ever, Snow Friends, and heard a "Cut-and-Tell" story about Snow Cake.

It was so rainy on Tuesday that we stayed inside and sang some of our favorite songs about going on a bear hunt and waking grizzly bears sleeping in their caves. But Thursday we got to go out and play!

Next week we will do a few more winter activities, have fun with PAJAMA DAY on Thursday, and then it will be time to start getting ready for Valentine's Day. We sure enjoy your little ones and appreciate all you do to keep our classroom running smoothly!

We'll see you Tuesday :)
Lisa and Sheri
