Chick-mania in the OC! -Teacher Meghan

It was chick- mania this week at Small Friends. We were thrilled that ten of our eggs hatched this year. We spent our week celebrating and gushing over the sweet baby chicks in our class. The chicks will head back to the farm this weekend so we are glad we had time to hold them and observe them this week.

On Monday the kids put items in their memory boxes. They added space stickers and an alien popper to represent our space unit and the month of April.

On Monday the kids also drew their last self-portrait for their portfolios. We loved these drawings so much we put them on display in the classroom.

On Wednesday the chicks were finally strong enough to be held and the kids had a blast snuggling with our fuzzy little friends.

On Wednesday we also made shower sponge chicks. The kids dipped a shower sponge in yellow paint for the body. They added feathers, google eyes and an orange beak. As their final step they made green grass using a fork and some green paint.

On Friday the kids made collages using an egg carton as a base.
They love any opportunity to  use the low temp glue guns and attached fabric, beads, ribbon and stickers to their egg carton base.

Our other activity on Friday was making a musical egg shaker. First the kids filled up a plastic egg with black beans, next they decorated the egg with tape and stickers. They loved using them to sing our chicken song during circle time.

Around the room imagination has come into full bloom. Here are some pictures of your kids at play.

At the building table we had flower builders to keep hands busy and minds creating.

At our fine motor table our friends were mom and dad birds. They helped to feed their baby chicks insects using large wooden tongs.

The kids loved the "weird creature builders" we had available.

The writing area has been very popular as the kids create mail for family and friends.

Creation station was a busy place.

In our water table this week we had eggs and watering cans. It is always fun to see what the kids will do with the items provided.

We had pink slime at the light table.

We had a guest librarian this week named Casey. We loved the finger plays, songs and books she shared with us!

We always love our panda time!

Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us!
