Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf - OC Teacher Meghan

It was so wonderful to have the kids back at school after conferences last week. We started our fairy tale unit on Monday and had fun exploring the story of The Three Little Pigs.

On Monday the kids started their day by signing in with their new name cards. We are so proud of how hard they are working on this skill!

On Monday the kids got the opportunity to do some magnet painting. They dragged magnetic balls through paint with their magnetic wands. It was fun watching the kids problem solve how to get the balls to move in the direction they wanted them to go without being able to see their wands hidden under the paper.

On Monday our second parent led activity was putting items in Memory Boxes and reflecting on all of the fun we had in February.

On Wednesday the kids drew self portraits for their portfolios. After they drew themselves they had a chance to look through their portfolios and see all the fun pieces of art we have collected so far this year.

On Wednesday we started a two part project. The kids studied pictures of castles and then created their own castle out of foam blocks. We took a picture of their castle so they could re-create it on Friday.

On Friday the kids studied the photograph of the three dimensional castle they created and tried to re-create it using the same blocks dipped in paint to make a two dimensional castle. It was fascinating watching the kids problem solve how to take a three dimensional shape and re-create it as something that is two dimensional.

On Friday our second activity was super fun. The kids got to build structures and then pretend to be the big bad wolf and blow their structures over using a hair dryer with a wolf face attached. The kids loved this activity and many of them spent the entire morning building and blowing down a variety of structures.

Around the room this week we had new items out for the kids to explore.

On the light table we had translucent duplos. The kids loved building with these.

On our building table we had magnetic car parts and pieces of interlocking rubber to build roads.

Purple play dough was a huge hit this week.

Creation station and the writing table were popular areas this week.

We had a farm game available this week at our fine motor/game table. The kids loved collecting all the farm animals while making crazy animal sounds.

Here are a couple of pictures of your kids at play.

The kids love going to the library each week for story time with Katrina!

On Wednesday we introduced the kids to a new friend from China named Panda. Panda will be coming to visit each of your homes this spring. We have included lots of details about Panda in our weekly email.

At circle time this week we read several different versions of The Three Little Pigs. We learned a finger play called "This Little Piggy Went To Market" and a funny song called "Mrs. Gooney Bird". We also celebrated a birthday this week.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful children with us!
Meghan and Susie
